The Verndale City Council held its regular meeting on December 12.
Water System Improvements
A public hearing was held as part of the agreement with DEED for funding on the water system improvements completed in the city.
This began four years ago when Well 1 exceeded nitrate levels. Moore Engineering was hired to evaluate the options. The analysis found the water tower was also in need of replacement. This resulted in the construction of a new well, new water treatment plant and a new water tower.
The Water Treatment Plant cost $2.539 million, water distribution construction came in at $357,611; water meter replacement cost $113,076 and the new water tower cost $798,500.
There have been compliments on the taste of the water. The reverse osmosis system makes the city’s water softer.
Maintenance Report
Supervisor Matt Uselman, received a quote for winter tires for the plow pickup. The cost for wheels, tires and pressure monitors is $1692. All-season tires are $1318. Police Chief Carr suggested looking into if they can get a state bid for tires. Approved the $1692 for tires and rims, if a better deal can’t be found.
The brush pile is closed for the season. . .
