Verndale man accused of stealing over $40,000 from Golden Gloves
According to court documents filed on April 18, a Verndale man is facing felony charges of theft from Upper Midwest Golden Gloves of over $40,000.
On December 4, 2023, Verndale Police Chief Randal Athmann and other individuals received a report regarding a financial theft call that the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office initially received.
On December 6, 2023, Chief Athmann contacted the reporting party, Cynthia Schumacher, treasurer of Upper Midwest Golden Gloves in St. Cloud. Schumacher provided the chief with financial records for Upper Midwest Golden Gloves documenting missing funds.
Schumacher explained to the officer that she was the new treasurer and noticed incomplete financial records.
The previous treasurer for the organization was Jeremy Matthew Umland, and Schumacher stated that Umland stopped responding to her inquiries regarding the missing funds. Schumacher stated that Umland has possession of a checkbook and a debit card that belong to Upper Midwest Golden Gloves.....
