Verndale School becomes first in state to earn High Reliability School Level 3 certification

The Verndale School is the first in Minnesota to be accredited as a High Reliability School Level 3. 

Dr. Marzano created the High Reliability Schools (HRS) framework to promote student learning and to help transform schools into organizations that take proactive steps to ensure student success.

Using 50 years of educational research-based five-level hierarchy, along with leading and lagging indicators, educators learn to assess, monitor, and confirm their schools’ effectiveness. HRS is nationwide, and in our local Region 5, Sourcewell chose pilot schools for this program. Verndale applied and received the designation. 

Superintendent Jeanie Mayer was pleased with the framework the school built on HRS. When Mayer transitioned into her superintendent role, she explained it was seamless due to the previously established framework with everything she needed to know. 

There are five levels in the program. The Verndale School achieved Level 1 certification in 2018 for a Safe, Supportive, and Collaborative Culture. This entailed many factors, including community surveys to learn about likes and dislikes and what the school could do better. Staff, students, and families perceived the school environment as safe, supportive, and orderly. Collaborative teams worked to address issues regarding instruction, curriculum, assessment, and achievement of all students, acknowledging the success of the whole school and individuals among the many factors....
