Verndale School Board: Cell phone lockers introduced to ensure distraction-free learning

The new cell phone policy was discussed with a focus on a distraction-free learning environment.
Regarding personal electronic devices such as smart watches, how can you tell if they are on a data plan, Bluetooth to the phone or just for fitness? At a glance, there is no difference.
The cell phone lockers were also discussed. Each student will have a number and a key. The students would put all their items in that little box and then take it to the office. If they need to leave during the day, they can pick them up.
“I will say that we’ve never had this large of a response on our Facebook post. This is the highest response we’ve ever gotten, and from all the shares and the actual post itself, I saw two negative emojis, and they were from two students. Otherwise, we had a significant amount of positive emojis or reactions and some positive feedback through it,” shared Superintendent Jeannie Mayer.
