Verndale School Board: Donations, resignations, hires, summer projects approved

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Verndale School Board held its regular meeting on April 4.

Indoor Air Quality Project

The board reviewed the bid results. Contractors were called to bid on the project. They received 16 bids. Two bids were received for each project except for electrical and HVAC, and there were no quotes received for painting.

The budget for the project is just over $3.6 million, and the base bid came in at $4.5 million.

Alternate projects for the gym rooftop unit, controls, more LED lighting and roofing were also bid. With these alternated the bids came to over $4.955 million.

They developed five potential options. One—accept the base bid, two—accept the base bid plus alternates, three—rebid in the fall, four—eliminate some rooftop units and add mini-splits, and five—replace some rooftop units with unit ventilators.

Contractors expect labor costs to increase as well as continuing increases on materials. They believe due to the summer timing for the project, many didn’t bid as they were already booked. If they rebid in the fall there’s a possibility they would get more bids. . .
