Verndale School Board: Enrollment declined slightly

The Verndale School Board held their regular meeting on September 12. Member Scott Veronen was absent.
Enrollment
As of September 9, enrollment was at 494, with 250 elementary students and 244 high school students. Ending enrollment in May was 510.
Superintendent Jeannie Mayer would like to start a superintendent council to discuss data such as MCAs to gain a baseline for Worlds Best Workforce, and an enrollment-based budget projection and how they can collectively work together to bring kids into local school districts.
Council Member Jeremy Schwartz would like projections to see how long they could run this way before measures have to be taken.
January will reveal budgetary implications and potential cuts they may have to make, as well as the loss of the additional COVID funds. Business Manager Jordan Anderson said the budget can carry them a year or two but a decision will have to be made. Free and Reduced Lunch forms were up to 52 percent, which will help to make up the $125,000 revenue loss from 2020-2021. It also depends on the legislature. . .
