The Verndale School Board held its regular meeting on September 9.

Administrative Reports

Dean of Students/Activities Director Greg Johnson stated they have 108 students in fall sports. Football has 31 for grades 9-12 and 20 for 7-8. There are 28 in volleyball, 19 in 7-8, and five boys and five girls in cross country.

Principal Katie Bolland explained that cell phone lockers were introduced on the first day of school and have been well received by students.

“It’s been phenomenal to see the kids interacting with each other, interacting with adults. I bet I’ve had several conversations in the hallways during passing time with students that I wouldn’t have had last year because they’re so quick to get the phone out and they’re on that during passing time,” said Bolland.

“We asked a couple of girls one day, what do you think? And they said it’s easier than they thought it would be. They thought it was going to be harder. But I tell you what, what’s so fun about passing time right now is the laughter and the chatter,” added Superintendent Jeannie Mayer....
