Verndale School Board: Proposed levy is set high, final levy will see a decrease
by Trinity Gruenberg
The Verndale School Board held its regular meeting on November 7.
Proposed Levy
Superintendent Jeannie Mayer discussed the levy. The proposed tax statements that are being sent out reflect the highest amount which is $724 per student. This is not the final levy. At the current rate of $300 per pupil, the school doesn’t get any state aid. The minimum number would be enough to generate state aid funds. Proposing the maximum amount allows them to decrease the final levy. They are looking at an increase of just $52 per pupil in order to get approximately $300,000 in state aid. Verndale is only one of four districts in the state that levies the bare minimum. You are encouraged to call the school if you have any questions. The December truth in taxation meeting will finalize the levy and questions will be answered. . .
