Verndale School Board: Taking Measures to Ensure Students Safety with Upgraded System

The Verndale School Board held its regular meeting on April 3.
Intercom and VOIP Upgrade
IT Coordinator Michael Hess explained that upgrading the VOIP system would allow them to program the phones to set off various alarms if need be.
Currently, the phones in the office will alarm if a 911 call is made from a classroom.
After a recent walk-through with Wadena County Emergency Management and the SWAT team, Superintendent Jeanie Mayer took notes of systems she would like to put in place such as outdoor radios and lights to alert those outside of an issue inside the building, whether it be a fire or weather alert.
The new system would feature different tones for different emergencies such as fire, weather or even a critical incident to better alert those as to what is happening—instead of a single general alarm.
Mayer explained the recent shooting at a school in Nashville set off the fire alarms, which led people to leave the classrooms. She wants to be able to identify the difference . . .
