Verndale School Board: Wrestling discussed in depth

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Verndale School Board held their regular meeting on Monday, November 4.

Administrative Reports

Student Member Kaija Madsen shared Red Ribbon Week went well. They held a grim reaper activity that simulated one drug-related death every five minutes; the students chosen wore black and couldn’t speak the rest of the day. There were 86 students in total. This was done with the upperclassmen.

Superintendent Jeannie Mayer said there was an issue with the hats as students claimed it was part of their costume or dress-up day. Students are allowed to wear school-affiliated hats.

Principal Katie Bolland shared that the eighth grade went on a field trip to Itasca, and 38 students were taken on college campus tours. The FFA students attended the national convention.

The fall play was tremendous, and the elementary had a Halloween parade.

Conferences were held on October 21, with some elementary classrooms reporting 100 percent attendance. High school was around 30-40 percent. MDE has a special education survey for staff and will have the special education director from Freshwater speak to staff to answer any questions.

The Veterans Day program will be held on Friday. The Honor Society induction will be held on November 14 at 2 p.m. November 20 will be a site visit with Dr. Phil Warwick to celebrate their level three High-Reliability School certification....
