Wadena and Otter Tail counties included in burn ban

Effective as of August 17, open burning, including recreational campfires, is not allowed within the city limits. This is the latest update from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Wadena and Otter Tail counties are two of the 14 additional counties in the state ceasing open burning.

Here is the direct information from the Wildfire Information section of the DNR website: NO OPEN BURNING—NO CAMPFIRES—“…all campfires and recreational fires are banned, prescribed burning is prohibited on private lands, and the use of welding devices and other torches is prohibited when in proximity to combustible vegetation.

Campers must take note that in the backcountry, and at campsites, only gas or propane camp stoves are allowed. Gas and charcoal grills are allowed at occupied homes, cabins, and resorts. Charcoal and gas fires must be in devices designed for grilling.”

Until further notice, please follow these guidelines from the DNR. If you spot a fire, please call 911.
