Wadena County Commissioners: Approved formal investigation into property valuations

The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on May 2.
County Property Valuations
Many county residents, especially those from Shell River Township, voiced their concerns over high property assessments.
James Dunn stated there is some misinformation out there that nothing can be done for 2024, but they can attend a board of equalization meeting in June. He has three lots, two have increased in value over 270 percent since 2022. One lot has an abandoned home, and if the county proceeds with this increase, he is happy to leave it be and not develop the lots. And banks won’t lend against it for the proposed values and he wouldn’t be able to sell them.
Verndale Mayor Tara Erckenbrack said the county assessor was ill prepared for the meeting and they were not given specific answers to their questions. They had no explanation as to why changes were done by “Brian”, who was given permission to evaluate and now they have two different property valuations for the city of Verndale. . .
