Wadena County Commissioners: Clarification needed on substance use disorder services
by Trinity Gruenberg
The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on July 6.
All Seasons Wellness
Melissa Stave, a counselor at All Seasons Wellness, shared concerns about Human Services the past year. She shared the lack of understanding with 245G state substance use disorder services.
An email in January 2021 from Human Services said that they don’t provide chemical dependency treatment and will no longer refer Rule 25 clients to All Seasons Wellness, as Human Services does not feel the services that are offered meet the level of requirement the clients are being recommended.
In 2014, language was changed from chemical health treatment to substance abuse disorders. In 2018, a rule change occurred, a new statute change from Rule 31 to the 245G. Stave ensured the correct codes are used for the services.
Pamphlets were printed in May and delivered to Human Services. She does not know if the county received them.
The county doesn’t have a licensed alcohol and drug counselor and believes that adds to the misunderstanding about the rule changes. Stave said this puts a damper on their relationship with Todd-Wadena Community Corrections. It has reduced referral numbers. . .
