The Wadena County Commissioners held a workshop meeting on August 8.

Outlier Highway Department Shops

County Engineer Darin Fellbaum reviewed the outlier shop options. They had previously discussed moving the Verndale Shop to Aldrich or creating a new central shop in Bluegrass.

The current locations in Menahga and Verndale are small and they need more space. They discussed looking at a larger lot to purchase and build larger shops.

The Nimrod shop needs more room as well. It is currently a one stall and they would like to increase that to a three stall. Nimrod would also need a well and septic system.

The Nimrod shop proposed size is 50x60 feet for an estimated cost of $480,000, and the old shop would be given to park department for storage.

The Verndale shop is proposed at 60x80 feet for an estimated cost of $768,000, and they would sell the current location. The new shop would remain in Verndale.

The Menahga shop would also be the same size and cost as Verndale’s proposed shop.

Funding options were discussed from grants to state aid funds. They agreed to look into the Nimrod shop first, then will look into Verndale. . .
