The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on August 15. Chair Mike Weyer was absent.
Public Hearing on the
Proposed Housing Tax
Abatement Policy
The Proposed Housing Tax Abatement Policy will include state statute numbers. One per taxpayer. Mobile homes do not qualify. Any person who constructs a new single family dwelling or two-family home and who files application materials and seeks formal approval from appropriate local jurisdictions may be eligible to receive a 100% tax rebate of the county’s share of increased real estate taxes, for a period of up to five years or up to $15,000 (whichever is met first) provided all of the criteria is met.
The committee did not agree to allowing ADUs. They discussed not bringing approval for it to the board, only if there is an issue. County Attorney Kyra Ladd added there was nothing in the policy for appeals, and she would like to see that in there. The plan would have applicants go to Olson for approval so they can begin the process once they get their building permit. She will pass it on to the other tax entities, such as school districts, for abatement approval. . .
