The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on March 14.

Tax Abatement Hearing

Dean Uselman and Mikaela Huot with Wadena Economic Development made a return visit to the commissioners with their request for the county to participate in the tax abatement for the proposed housing project in Wadena.

The city and the school approved the tax abatement.

The construction would generate the tax revenue to repay the inter-fund loan through the city, along with city and county ARPA funds of approximately $3 million. Two developers have tentatively signed preliminary agreements.

The abatement request to the county is $1.3 million for 15 years. The term could be less if the construction progresses quickly. The city’s share is $900,000 and the school’s share is $345,000, This is based on the total taxable value which is $10.1 million for phase one, for the development of 44 housing units. . .
