The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on July 18.
Human Services Vehicle
Amie Gendron and Jennifer Westrum discussed the need for a new vehicle for Human Services.
They need to replace a vehicle in 2024 and asked the commissioners whether they could use levy dollars or find a different source.
They recommended replacing the 2010 Chevy Impala due to high mileage. Staff would like a vehicle that can transport multiple children and family members at one time, outside of the county. They looked at vehicles like a Tahoe or Suburban which run around $80,000. Their best option is a Chrysler Pacifica for $53,000 but the price could increase in 2024.
They are often short on vehicles and have to use personal vehicles. Their aging fleet doesn’t allow them to use hands-free calling as the technology isn’t available in the cars. They cannot use the Friendly Rider service due to confidentiality.
It was suggested to check with Sourcewell for options as well. They discussed lease options. Human Services would look into them if they could get reimbursed for lease payments and write-off depreciation. The commissioners suggested the Human Services budget for the vehicle. . .
