Wadena County Commissioners: New engineer, 4-H building and Bell Hill updates

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on February 4.

4-H Building

Auditor/Treasurer Heather Olson, working with the Friends of Wadena County Youth, explained that the board needs to approve someone to run the scope of work for the project. Dan Sartell and Ron Noon have been suggested as the leads. The scope of work is focused on building construction, not purchasing equipment, as the 4-H group is handling the equipment purchases.

The process involves approving bids for the construction work, with the Friends of Wadena County transferring the full bid amount to the county to manage the payments. The board discussed setting a change order limit of up to $3000 that could be approved without needing to come back to the board.

The board wants a written document outlining the authority and parameters for Dan and Ron’s work on the project.

The project is facing some challenges with the Department of Labor and Industry regarding the building code, as Wadena County and the city of Wadena do not subscribe to the state building code. The fairgrounds buildings are also exempt from local zoning laws, confusing the Department of Labor and Industry....
