The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on August 2.

Old Wadena Park Cleanup

The DNR conducted a state sale on the timber cleanup. A company out of Clarissa and one from Menahga will conduct the work. The cleanup has not started yet.

Old Wadena is part of the national register and they had to go through the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) for restoration and expansion proposals. SHPO gave them the okay for cleanup and to restore what was on site. Any expansion would have to go through an archaeological survey which is costly. There are grants they can apply for to help with the cost.

The archaeologist with the Little Round Hill dig suggested mapping out the historic areas and keeping those on the register instead of the entire property to prevent another archaeological survey. This would allow them to do more to the park.

Until the loggers come in for cleanup there isn’t much they can do. They will have to wait to get quotes to rebuild the pavilion next spring and there won’t be any camping this year. . .
