Wadena County Commissioners: Public hearing held on Forest Management Plan

The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 9.

Forest Management Plan public hearing

The Forest Management Plan has been in the works for nearly four years.

History provided in the plan: In December 2020, the Conservation Fund approached the county, and asked if they were interested in obtaining Potlach parcels. Later, Northern Waters Land Trust (NWLT) approached the county with an opportunity to apply for an Outdoor Heritage Grant with eight other counties and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to try and acquire these lands. 

On April 18, 2023, the Wadena County Commissioners voted unanimously to move forward to fund the project. The development of this Forest Management Plan is a direct result of that decision.

The Outdoor Heritage Grant relates directly to the restoration, protection, and enhancement of wetlands, prairies, forests, and habitats for fish, game, and wildlife, to preventing forest fragmentation, to encouraging forest consolidation, and to expanding restored native prairie....
