Wadena-Deer Creek football forfeits remaining season

The Wadena-Deer Creek varsity football team is going to forfeit the remainder of the season due to injuries.

Head Coach Kyle Petermeier explained in a letter to families and posted this online:

Dear WDC Football Families, I would like to thank you for your time, commitment and support of WDC Football. Without the families, nothing we do would be possible. Myself, our coaches, and our administration have made a tough decision to forgo the rest of the Varsity (9th-12th grade) game schedule. I wanted to send out a letter so you can hear the correct details and everything that went into this tough, impossible, but necessary decision.

The safety of our kids is the most important thing to us. I can’t even describe to you how proud of them we are, and how much we believe in them. Their character shined throughout this season. Our guys are competing so hard each week and while healthy, we were comfortable playing against any team in front of us. As we worked through the middle of the season, the injuries started to pile up, and we went into our week 7 game with very, very low numbers. Another round of injuries in this game has led us to this decision....
