World’s deadliest creature spreading more disease around the United States and the world

by Karin L Nauber

While the deer tick and other ticks are busy spreading their various forms of disease from Lyme Disease to Powassan virus and numerous illnesses in between, the deadliest creature in the world is actually the mosquito.

It’s amazing that something as small as the ticks and the mosquitoes can be among the most deadliest on the earth.

Let’s take a little look at what good is a mosquito before we look at the numerous ways they can make us sick or even kill us.

To me, there is no good purpose for a mosquito. Researchers would argue that point, but they will not convince me that a mosquito serves any purpose except to suck my blood, make me sick and just plain annoy me.

David Mizejewski, writing for the National Wildlife Federation, would be one of those people that would argue that a mosquito does have several very useful purposes.

In his article on NWF.com titled “What Purpose Do Mosquitoes Serve?” Mizejewski writes, “Believe it or not, mosquitoes are pollinators. In fact, mosquitoes’ primary food source is flower nectar, not blood. Just like bees or butterflies, mosquitoes transfer pollen from flower to flower as they feed on nectar, fertilizing plants and allowing them to form seeds and reproduce. It’s only when a female mosquito lays eggs does she seek a blood meal for the protein. Males feed only on flower nectar and never bite. “

I thought the birds and the bees did most of the pollinating, but I guess I was mistaken. Does it make me like mosquitoes? Not on your life!...
