Hard working, active in the community, promoting the dairy industry, a family that gives back, are among the traits of those that are nominated to be Farm Family of the Year.
The University of Minnesota Extension chooses one family every year, in every county throughout the state, to receive this honor.
This year the Zigan family of Zigan Dairy in Long Prairie received the award. The family includes Derek and Amanda Zigan and their four children: Jax, 13; Chloe, 12; Jovi, 10; and Alec, 7.
“It’s an honor to be chosen, to be recognized by your peers and the community that we’re doing something right,” said Amanda.
It was a busy day at the farm, everyone spread out doing something different. Derek, along with a helper, was tending to a cow in the pasture that got a wire wrapped around her foot. Amanda was hunting for her favorite broom to sweep out the barn. . .
