Tick borne disease is worse than Lymes in Minnesota
There is another tick borne disease that is more rare and deadly than Lymes and has made its presence known in Minnesota.
The Powassan (POW) virus is transmitted by infected ticks. Approximately 70 cases of POW virus were reported in the U.S. over the last 10 years with the majority of them reported in the northeast and Great Lakes region.
The list of cases reported to the CDC through 2015 include: Maine (2), Massachusetts (8), New Hampshire (1), New Jersey (3), New York (16), Pennsylvania (1), Virginia (1), Wisconsin (16) and Minnesota (20).
