Tri-County Health Care to build across the county line: Fairground's price tag of $13.1 million too high

Tri-County Health Care decided $13.1 million was too much to pay for the fairgrounds  and have chosen a new location to build a new hospital, which will be located in Otter Tail County.

“It’s our intention to be very transparent, with what we’ve got going on with this project,” said President and CEO of Tri-County Health Care Joel Beiswenger at a press conference on June 25.

Beiswenger said there had been a significant amount of progress over the last two weeks and decisions have been made.

They had been seriously looking at the Wadena County Fairgrounds as the site of their new hospital. An architect was called in to do the master planning and work with the county commissioners and the fair board.

“The outcome was very good and everyone was very pleased,” said Beiswenger.

But the cost came in at $13.1 million to relocate the fair and the historical buildings and rebuild the necessary buildings. . . .
