New well and new water tower discussed at public hearing

    The Verndale City Council held a public hearing on Tuesday, February 20, at the fire hall to discuss water system improvements.

    Joeb Oyster with Moore Engineering Inc. discussed the options for a new well and water tower. The hearing was a requirement of the Small Cities Development Program to apply for a grant. 

    Well number one, located in the corner of McNair Park, exceeded nitrate levels and had to be shut down.     

    The Department of Health has conducted research in the area that showed most shallow wells contain high nitrates. They looked into drilling a deep well.

    “There is little opportunity to find deep wells in the proximity of the city that have the capacity to serve all the residents of Verndale,” explained Oyster. . . . .
